The recent release of three sea turtles, Ibai, Luceira, and Lula, marked another milestone in this conservation effort. Minister Ángeles Vázquez witnessed the moving event at the Vilaxoán dock, highlighting the importance of this rescue network.

The recovery process, carried out at the Galician Institute of Aquaculture Training (Igafa), involves dedicated care from students and teachers to ensure these turtles return to their natural open sea habitat in optimal condition. Equipped with tracking devices, these turtles are expected to contribute to scientific knowledge about their behavior and migration.

The collaboration between fishermen, local authorities, and conservation organizations in Galicia underscores the importance of protecting these fascinating marine creatures. With each rescue and release, the commitment to preserving the valuable marine ecosystem of the Galician region is strengthened.

Some of the turtle species marine green turtle (Caretta caretta) and the green turtle (Chelonia mydas) are listed as endangered according to the IUCN Red List. These sea turtles face constant threats due to bycatch, pollution, and habitat destruction. Conservation efforts in Galicia are vital not only for the survival of rescued turtles but also for the preservation of these species worldwide.
