In Spain, the animal welfare law has been recently approved, which aims to improve the living conditions of animals and protect them from cruelty and mistreatment. This law establishes harsher penalties for those who violate animal welfare regulations and also includes measures to improve the protection of companion animals, farm animals, and wild animals.

In addition, the law also establishes the creation of a national animal registry and a system of identification and control to ensure greater protection and better living conditions for animals. The implementation of this law is an important step in the right direction to improve animal protection in Spain and promote a more responsible and respectful society towards living beings.

Regarding turtles, this new animal welfare law in Spain also includes specific measures to protect these iconic reptiles. Restrictions are set on the commercialization of exotic turtles as pets and responsible adoption of native turtles is promoted. In addition, measures are established to protect turtles in their natural environment, including a ban on hunting or capturing wild turtles and the protection of their natural habitats.

This law also includes measures to prevent the introduction of invasive species, which can be harmful to biodiversity and ecological balance, and to combat the illegal trafficking of turtles.

Some of the measures regarding the animal welfare law in Spain:

Commercialization of exotic turtles: The law establishes restrictions on the import, export, and commercialization of exotic turtles as pets, with the aim of protecting these species and preventing their overpopulation in captivity.

Responsible adoption of native turtles: Responsible adoption of native turtles is promoted to prevent their abandonment and improve their living conditions.

Protection of natural habitats: The law includes measures to protect the natural habitats of turtles and prevent the destruction of their environment.

Hunting and capturing prohibited: The law prohibits the hunting and capturing of wild turtles to protect these species and preserve biodiversity.

Fight against illegal trafficking: Measures are established to combat the illegal trafficking of turtles, including harsher penalties for those involved in these illegal activities.

Prevention of invasive species: The law includes measures to prevent the introduction of invasive species that may be harmful to the environment and biodiversity.

We already wrote an article before the animal welfare law was approved about the possible fines and penalties.

These measures, along with others included in the animal welfare law in Spain, demonstrate a real commitment to the protection of animals and the conservation of biodiversity in the country.
